Ofsted Registered Nannies

What is an Ofsted Registered Nanny and How Can They Benefit Your Family?

In this guide, we will explain what Ofsted registration entails, its requirements, and how an Ofsted registered nanny can be a great asset to your family.

What is an Ofsted Registered Nanny?

Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills) is a UK government agency that inspects and regulates services providing education and care for children. When a nanny is registered with Ofsted, it means they meet certain criteria set out by the government to ensure the safety, well-being, and development of the children in their care.

To become Ofsted registered nannies must :

Hold a valid First Aid Certificate – specifically tailored for children, ensuring they know how to handle emergencies effectively.

Have a DBS Check – undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, proving they do not have a criminal record that would make them unsuitable for working with children.

Possess a Childcare Qualification – they must have qualifications relevant to working with young children, such as childcare or early years education certifications. However the minimum accepted is only a 6 hour course -Common Core Skills, so do check whch level the Nanny has studied.

Have Public Liability Insurance – Ofsted requires nannies to have insurance in place to cover any accidents or issues that may arise during their duties.

Undergo Regular Inspections – they are subject to inspections by Ofsted to ensure they are maintaining high standards of care, but they are not very common for nannies.

How Can an Ofsted Registered Nanny Benefit Your Family?

There are several benefits to hiring an Ofsted registered nanny for your family, from financial savings to peace of mind. Below are some of the key advantages:

Tax Savings Through Childcare Vouchers and Tax-Free Childcare:
One of the main financial benefits of hiring an Ofsted registered nanny is eligibility for government schemes such as Tax-Free Childcare and Childcare Vouchers. These programs allow families to save on childcare costs by paying their nanny using pre-tax income, effectively reducing the amount of tax you need to pay. This can save you up to £2,000 per year per child.

Assurance of Safety and Professionalism:
Since Ofsted registered nannies have undergone stringent checks, including the DBS check and First Aid training, you can be confident that they meet professional standards of care. Ofsted inspections provide an extra layer of oversight, offering peace of mind that your child is being cared for in a safe and supportive environment.

Higher Standards of Care:
By choosing an Ofsted registered nanny, you are opting for someone who has demonstrated a commitment to their profession. Their registration requires ongoing training and development, meaning they are more likely to stay updated with best practices in childcare and early years education.

Eligibility for Employer-Supported Childcare Schemes:
If your employer participates in childcare schemes, hiring an Ofsted registered nanny ensures you can take advantage of these benefits. This could involve receiving support through employer childcare vouchers, which can further reduce the financial burden of childcare.
