Join The National Nanny Register

The National Nanny Association (NNA) is proud to offer a voluntary professional register for nannies who want to showcase their commitment to quality, safeguarding, and professional excellence

What is the Nanny Register?

The National Nanny Register is designed to raise standards in the nanny profession by recognising nannies who go above and beyond.

It is important to be clear:

  • The NNA Register is NOT a replacement for Ofsted.
  • Ofsted is the statutory regulator in England and the only scheme that allows families to access tax-free childcare, childcare vouchers, and government-linked funding.
  • The NNA Register is a voluntary professional recognition scheme, run by a not-for-profit organisation.

We fully support both systems, and many nannies may choose to hold both registrations.

Why Does the Register Matter?

  • Choice for families – families who do not use or qualify for Ofsted can still have reassurance their nanny has met high professional standards.
  • Raising standards – our criteria go beyond the basics, setting a strong benchmark for professionalism.
  • Future recognition – should the government ever extend funding or regulation to nannies, our registered members will already be aligned with early years educators and childminders.
  • Pride in the profession – we are working to build a strong, credible workforce that nannies and families alike can be proud of.

What Does an NNA Registered Nanny Commit To?

Every nanny joining the register must provide evidence of:

  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Recognised Level 3 childcare qualification or above.
  • Up-to-date paediatric first aid training
  • Nanny Insurance
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene

This gives families confidence that their nanny has chosen to go above and beyond statutory minimum requirements.

 Not-for-Profit and Volunteer-Led

The NNA is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers. Membership fees go directly towards:

  • Running our website
  • Insurance
  • Training days and professional development opportunities for members

 What Do You Receive?

Every nanny who successfully joins the register will receive:

  • A beautiful certificate to celebrate their achievement
  • The option to claim a leather portfolio folder to store and present their professional documents with pride.

How Much Does It Cost?

  • The NNA Register costs £30
  • This covers the processing of applications, administration, and ongoing running costs of the association

In Summary

  • Ofsted = statutory regulator (for tax-free childcare and government funding)
  • NNA Register = voluntary recognition (for professionalism, safeguarding, and higher standards)

We support both. They can exist side by side, giving families more choice and nannies greater pride.

The NNA Register is here to celebrate the professionalism of nannies across the UK and build a proud workforce recognised alongside the rest of the early years sector.
