The National Nanny Association Register
What Families Need to Know
What is the NNA Register?
The National Nanny Association Register is a voluntary professional register for nannies who want to demonstrate the highest standards of care and safeguarding.
Please Note:
It is not a replacement for Ofsted registration. Ofsted remains the statutory regulator in England, and it is the only route for families who wish to access:
• Tax-free childcare
• Childcare vouchers
• Government-linked funding
Instead, the NNA Register offers families reassurance that their nanny has chosen to go above and beyond the minimum legal requirements.
What does an NNA Registered Nanny commit to?
An enhanced DBS Check
A recognised Level 3 childcare qualification or above
Up-to-date paediatric first aid training
Nanny Insurance
A Level 2 Food Hygiene Course
This means families know their nanny is committed to quality, safety, and professionalism.

Why does the NNA Register matter?
- Choice for families – some families don’t qualify for tax-free childcare or choose not to use Ofsted registration. The NNA Register provides another layer of assurance.
- Raising standards – we set criteria that go beyond the minimum, helping nannies demonstrate their professionalism.
- Future recognition – if the government extends funding or regulation to nannies in future, our registered nannies will already be aligned with early years educators and childminders.
Who runs the register?
The National Nanny Association is a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers.
Any fees paid by members are used only to cover:
- Our website
- Insurance
- Training and professional development events for members.
We do not operate for profit. Our aim is simply to support, celebrate, and professionalise nannies while giving families confidence.
In Summary
- Ofsted = statutory registration (for families wanting government funding).
- NNA Register = voluntary professional recognition (for families who value higher standards).
Both can exist side by side. Families get more choice, and the nanny profession gains more recognition.
